why only 5 ? I cap my 7 MB/s capable ISP twice, using -5% QoS in my router to fight bufferbloat, and -20% in utorrent - both help keep VPN stable. AIRVPN INSTALLING TUNNEL DRIVER FAILS ISOthe period I switch to EU is during prime time, (8pm-11pm) I'm in the same timezone as Canada.įollowing above advice I'm able to enjoy ~5 MB/s transfer rates while torrenting ubuntu ISO clients. in NYC/US I can choose Canada or Europe for P2P while EU has more capacity, Canada is 90% closer thus I enjoy better speeds while using ibVPN client. you are on a virtual IP trying to P2P with pirates - why bother to block them?!Ĭhoose a VPN outlet geographically closest to you. Temporarily disable the Malicious Website Protection of your anti Malware solution. only avoid L2TP if you fear deep packet inspection. Use L2TP protocol, it's more secure than old PPTP but it's dramatically faster than OpenVPN UDP. most VPN clients will include the signed tap they will support and circumventing that fact is only asking for trouble. I would NOT follow another posters tap 9.9.1 adapter advice. Default gateway that Windows setup automatically. Microsoft security essentials, if you are running it, might interfere. If you are running Windows for the VPN client, see if the program driver is hindering things. Usually done to prevent first contact direct from the internet accessing home based servers on ports that keep getting scanned more than others. AIRVPN INSTALLING TUNNEL DRIVER FAILS TVOptik TV users will plug a gigabit switch into the ONT and use two routers, one for TV and one for internet. If you are lucky and are on fiber, the optical network terminal is the modem and you don't have to use the Actiontec. If you have a Actiontec T series, it has port1 bridge mode for use of your personal router. The routing and ports forwarding can be flakey. TCP/UDP Checksum offloading on your NIC (IPv4/IPv6)might need to be set to disabled if it causes issues.Īre you using the Telus Actiontec Gateway? I don't like the all in ones. Telus also has 73% of their network with IPv6 available, so another setting to check, if the VPN service has IPv6 enabled. As long as you don't abuse the network, they don't interfere. Thanks to everyone who helped me troubleshoot this! ![]() The speeds still aren't close to what other people have talked about getting, but it may be manageable now. If I avoid local servers and use ones that are further away, where the problem servers are bypassed, my VPN speeds double. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.ĮDIT 2: It seems as though the issue is with one of the main network providers in my area. AIRVPN INSTALLING TUNNEL DRIVER FAILS DOWNLOADI would really like to start using a VPN regularly for privacy, but none of the speeds I've gotten will allow me to do so without being incredibly frustrated all the time.ĮDIT: I'm literally on AirVPN as I type this, with a download speed of 1.45 Mbit (using AirVPN's speed tester), connected to a 1 Gbit server/connection that's local, has a 29ms response time, and only has 11% capacity right now. Is it possible it has something to do with my ISP, Telus? Do they mess with VPN traffic? ![]() It just doesn't make sense to me based on what I've read about AirVPN. I'm in Vancouver, BC, and even when I'm connected to one of their Vancouver servers (Cetus, Gemma, Homam), I'm getting 2-10 Mbit speeds. OpenVPN, numerous servers, and the results are the same, 2 to 10 Mbit. I've tried different ports, their client vs. I'm on a 50 Mbit connection that usually gets around 54 Mbit, but the max I can get with AirVPN is 10 Mbit. After trying quite a few VPNs and being disappointed with the speeds I figured I would just go with AirVPN, since it gets such fantastic reviews, and I've seen people talking about maxing out their 50 and 100 Mbit connections. I keep reading reviews about great VPNs maxing out a user's connection, but I can't get anywhere close to what I'm reading about. ![]()
